Bayer Leverkusen Reach European Semi-Final

Diaby's brace helps Leverkusen cruise past Union SG

Bayer Leverkusen have reached their first European semi-final since 2002, after a comfortable 4-0 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Moussa Diaby opened the scoring for Leverkusen in the first half, before Piero Hincapie and Amine Adli added further goals after the break. Diaby then wrapped up the scoring with his second of the night, as Leverkusen secured a convincing victory.

Union SG came into the game as underdogs, but they started brightly and had a couple of good chances in the opening stages. However, Leverkusen gradually took control of the game and Diaby's goal gave them the lead they deserved.

Union SG never really recovered from that blow, and Leverkusen went on to dominate the rest of the game. Hincapie's header made it 2-0 just after the hour mark, and Adli added a third shortly afterwards.

Diaby then completed the scoring with a fine individual goal in the 85th minute. The win means Leverkusen are now just one game away from reaching the Europa League final, and they will be confident of their chances after such a convincing performance.

Conclusion

Bayer Leverkusen's victory over Union SG was a dominant display from the German side, who were simply too strong for their Belgian opponents. Diaby was the star of the show, with his two goals and an assist, but the whole team played well and deserved their victory.

Leverkusen will now be confident of going all the way in the Europa League, and they will be one of the favourites to lift the trophy in May.
