Origins and Founder

The Militia Immaculatae (MI) is a worldwide Catholic evangelization movement founded by Saint Maximilian Kolbe in 1917, just three days after the miracle of the sun in Fatima.

Saint Maximilian Kolbe

Saint Maximilian Kolbe was a Polish Franciscan friar who is known for his devotion to the Immaculate Virgin Mary and his work in promoting the cause of evangelization. He was imprisoned in Auschwitz during World War II and died there in 1941.

Purpose and Mission

The purpose of the MI is to promote the Immaculate Virgin Mary as the means of leading all people to Christ.

The MI's mission is to spread the message of the Gospel to all nations and to help people to live their faith more fully.

Membership and Activities

The MI is open to all Catholics who are willing to consecrate themselves to the Immaculate Virgin Mary and to work for the spread of the Gospel.

Members of the MI engage in a variety of activities, including:

  • Apostolate work, such as evangelization and catechesis
  • Social service and charitable works
