Lukas Podolski, the iconic German forward, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 37. The former Arsenal and Bayern Munich star made the announcement on his social media channels, bringing an end to a glittering 20-year playing career.
Podolski, known for his powerful left foot and goalscoring prowess, represented the German national team on 130 occasions, scoring 49 goals. He was part of the German team that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and also played in three UEFA European Championships.
At club level, Podolski enjoyed spells with a host of top European clubs, including Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Inter Milan, and Galatasaray. He won the Bundesliga title with Bayern in 2008 and the FA Cup with Arsenal in 2014.
